Bradford's 1-in-12 Club library with online catalogue

E-mail Print PDF

1-in-12 Club Library and Cyber-cafe, Bradford, EnglandOpened in 1996 in Bradford's 1-in-12 Club (which is one of the earliest anarchist centres opened in Britain) the 1in12 Library curates a sizeable collection of literature, and maintains a space which plays host (in addition to the book-related activities) to films, meetings, internet access and meals. Check out the Library Collective page on the 1-in-12 club website which links to opening times and an online catalogue, plus enticing pictures of food and music accompanying the feast of reading material available. The 1-in-12 Club are also part of the NORLA network (we think).

Obviously it's long overdue that we added them to the Links and Friends area of our website so this is now rectified.

Housmans radical booksellers take on Amazon

E-mail Print PDF

Housmans at 5 Caledonian Road near Kings Cross station is one of the last remaining radical bookshops in London, not to mention Britain. Established in 1945, Housmans mission is to promote ideas of peace, human rights and a more equitable economy. The bookshop has been a hub of political activism for the past 65 years. But they could really do with your help if they are to continue this role.

At the moment, they really need support in helping promote their new webshop: http://www.shop.housmans.com/
The power of the internet allows Housmans to interact with those outside the London area. If supporters from around the country were to regularly buy a book from us it would really make a significant difference. Read on for Press Release.

Update: video on Guardian website on April 12th 2010: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/video/2010/apr/12/housmans-radical-bookshop

Link to Big Flame online archive project

E-mail Print PDF

Big Flame was a socialist project in the 1970s & 80s which produced a series of themed papers which were influential on the libertarian left and anarchism alike. On the site http://bigflameuk.wordpress.com is an interesting account of the joining to Big Flame of the Libertarian Communist Group in 1980: http://bigflameuk.wordpress.com/2009/12/03/libertarian-communist-group/
The site is comprehensive with the content of issues of Big Flame with reflection on each and promise of a forthcoming book.

If you want to see the real thing, a few copies of Big Flame and the LCG's paper Libertarian Communist can be found at the Sparrows' Nest.
