Welcome to the Sparrows' Nest Library and Archive

Based in Nottingham (UK), we look after tens of thousands of books, journals, pamphlets, zines, leaflets, posters and other items documenting the anarchist movement in the UK and beyond, as well as local radical history. Browse our catalogue, access digitised records in our free Digital Library and get in touch to arrange a visit.

News and events from The Sparrows' Nest.

Apologies that our Document of the Month feature has been irregular in recent months. This March we want to shine the spotline on our newest oldest document!

We hope this update finds you all safe. Although our doors remain closed until further notice, our Digital Library is of course open as usual. And we have some treats for you this month!

It has been another busy month and we are delighted to present a bunch of new additions to the Digital Library, including numerous issues of Direct Action from the early years of DAM (Direct Action Movement), and all of the previously missing issues of local cartoon zine CIA (Cartoons Included Also). Dive in!

We have the pleasure to announce that we have been entrusted with documents relating to the Out House Project, a Nottingham based LGBTQ+ project which worked between the 1980s and mid 2000s to establish a community centre.

Although January is not over yet, we have been rather busy digitising new materials, and - given that the rest of the month is going to be filled with less fun tasks - we wanted you to have access to them as soon as possible. As usual there is a smattering of asssorted materials, but this time we have also added then a lot of previously unscanned issues of Freedom (for lots of other Volumes of Freedom please also the Freedom Newspaper Archive). In total we have added 110 issues (or 1,821 pages!) of Freedom from the mid to late 1970s and mid 1980s. Dive in!
